First Aid SuppliesFirst-Aid supplies should be a good part of your emergency kit, easily accessibly and mobile to bring with you in case you must move to another location. Whether purchasing a first-aid kit or piecing one together, always remember to include personal prescriptions or over the counter medication required by you and/or your family. |

Food Storage and SuppliesFood storage is one component of emergency supplies you can't do without. You can purchase prepackaged freeze dried foods from renound companies such as Mountain House or you can stock up a 3 month rotating pantry. You can purchase ready built storage cabinets for your food storage or you can build something yourself. Food is one of the life lines, so being prepared is worth every penny. |

Water Storage and SuppliesYou cannot live without water, period. Keeping a minimum of 1 gallon of water per person per day is a good standard. Best practice is to include 2 different methods of water filtration in your kit just in case. Try to keep your minimum 72 hour water supply per person in movable form like 5 gallon water cans as it's not easy to move a 55 gallon drum during an evacuation... think ahead ;o) |

Emergency Cooking SuppliesHaving a hot meal and able to boil drinking water is good for moral when in a stressed situation. If your power is out in your home or stranded in the middle of nowhere, you will need supplies to heat your food storage and/or boil water. Open fire, propane camping grills, charcoal grills and cooking candles are a few options. Always remember safety first and cook in a well ventilated area. |

Emergency Communication EquipmentCommunication is an important part of emergency planning. Basic communication items such as emergency whistles and dynamo crank/solar powered NOAA, FM, AM, SW and LW radios are essential parts of an emergency kit. More advanced communication equipement such as amateur radios and repeaters would also be a great investment in time and money. |
